OKbet News Agency, Tehran, September 5th. Portuguese coach Queiroz is expected to coach the Iranian national football team again before the 2022 World Cup.
According to Iranian media reports on the 5th, this week "the Iranian Football Association will announce that Queiroz will be the head coach of the Iranian national team." That means Queiroz, 69, will replace Croatian coach Dragan Skocic, who was sacked in July and reinstated a week later.
The Iranian state news agency said: "The new president of the Iranian Football Federation, Tajay, is seriously considering the return of Portuguese coach Queiroz."
Taj was elected president of the Iranian Football Federation last week, having previously held the role from 2016 to 2019.
Queiroz led the Iranian national team to the 2014 and 2018 World Cups during his previous eight years in charge of the Iranian national team, and he is also the longest coach in charge of the Iranian national team. This year's World Cup in Qatar will be the sixth time Iran has participated in the World Cup finals. Iran, which is in Group B, will face England, Wales and the United States respectively.
