In the early morning of Monday Beijing time, Ligue 1 Nice officially announced that it had signed a contract with England midfielder Barkley, and the player joined as a free agent.
Barkley, 28, spent four and a half years at Chelsea. He played for several clubs in the Premier League, making 232 appearances and scoring 29 goals. He also made 33 appearances for England, scoring six goals.
Barkley made just 14 appearances for Chelsea last season, totaling 422 minutes, scoring one goal (the last goal of Chelsea's Abu era). Barkley had previously terminated his contract with Chelsea and was now exempted from signing by Nice. Barkley will wear the Nice No. 11 shirt for the new season.
